The function of the
supply pump in your fuel system is to pump fuel to the filter
housing and on to the injector pump. If your supply pump fails,
the injection pump has to pull fuel all the way from the tank.
This exceeds the load this injection pump was designed to pull;
resulting in damage to the injection pump. For early warning, and
a chance to save money, buy the kit now.
The best way to avoid the most common and costly dodge cummins
turbo diesel pump repair is to prevent it from happening.
The Cummins injection pump (VP44) is an electronic rotary distributor pump that can vary fueling and injection timing based on input from the electronic control module (ECM). This pump also has its own electronic control unit, the fuel pump control module (FPCM), which contains fueling, timing, and diagnostic data. These pumps perform four basic functions:
